UNITED STRINGS OF EUROPE ANNOUNCE THEIR NEW SEASON

With major national and international debuts, the United Strings of Europe’s 23/24 season offers up bold programming, electrifying collaborations, world premieres and a brand new album showcasing the ensemble’s virtuosity and knack for re-imagining familiar repertoire. Whether at Glasgow’s Engine Works or at London’s Wigmore Hall, come experience something fresh and unexpected.

The season features debuts at Antwerp’s De Singel, the Wigmore Hall and the Barbican Centre, a performance in Nottingham launching our new album Through the Night, tours to Switzerland and Belgium, collaborations with the BBC Singers, sopranos Ruby Hughes and Emily Thorner, and pioneer of the magnetic resonating piano Xenia Pestova Bennett, a first visit to Reading Town Hall and a return to St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, premieres of new works by Rhian Samuel, Kim André Arnesen and Matthew Whiteside, plus a residency at Scotland’s The Night With… new music festival.

Part of De Singel’s Festival of Re/Birth, the programme features many of the works from the ensemble’s critically-acclaimed second album ‘Renewal’ including Osvaldo Golijov’s haunting Three Songs with soprano Ruby Hughes and original arrangements by ensemble director Julian Azkoul of works by Caroline Shaw, Felix Mendelssohn and Henry Purcell
